I had the awesome opportunity to design the technology that the Upyr created for extracting energy from azoth. As this was one of the first representation of electricity in New World, we had to be careful to make sure it didn't feel too advanced and could reasonably fit in within the time period of the 17-18th century. We also wanted it to feel inspired by the retro future feeling of the 1950's and classic horror like Frankenstein. The last requirement was to make a kit that could use some existing pieces to save modeling time since this was near the end of development.
I decided to approach this task mostly by concepting in 3D, building out lowish poly assets in blender and kitbashing other elements. I then textured, rendered and painted details on top. At the end I was able to hand off finished visdev concepts as well as some proxy models to the environment team for them to optimize into useable game ready kit.
